oh right....blog...

So I might have forgotten to keep up with my posts lately. Here's a sum of events of the past week and a half or so.

The beginnings of the blades.

starting to taper them.

Freshly polished can opener handles.

Slightly more tapered blades. Sorry about the picture being sideways. I'll get the hang of this blog thing some day.

Flocking the handles.

At least there's free wifi...

Today (and tomorrow) I have been blessed with jury duty. For the most part I've spent the last couple hours cleaning out my inbox, organizing things on my computer, thinking about how much stuff I have to do, and envying of all the people here doing their normal homework. You know, with textbooks and stuff. Now I've decided to scour the internet for things of interest. So here they are:

(Honestly after I finished typing that I got called for a jury. Luckily I was not picked. On to day 2...)

  • individual icons
  • Anne Maa Designs love this bracelet!
  • 30 rings some of these aren't all that cool, but there are a few really awesome ones (see octopus/teeth, etc)
  • Sound Advice These are sort of cool, right? (minus the anti-drug plug. I like the fact that you can record anything.)
  • Killer Ring somewhat comical, yes?
  • The Goldfish Bowl I understand this is not relevant, but I saw it on notcot and fell in love.

I want Swine Flu. (pictured below)

I stumbled upon this page and fell in love. The idea of working with glass (other than enamel) intrigues me. It's so foreign. Enjoy.

Lately I've been in a plastic mood.

Last fall Yev taught us how to work with Smooth-On 2 part plastics. I really enjoyed making molds (especially after taking casting). Lately I've had the urge to work with plastic again; however this time I've found a new type to work with--Corian. You might recognize Diane Falkenhagen's brooch on the right (it was on the cover of the latest issue of Metalsmith). I was shocked (and pleased) to find that the brooch is made of carved Corian. I had heard of Corian before, but never really looked into it. My parents just so happen to have some Corian scraps laying around in their garage so I grabbed a small chunk of backsplash to try it out. Hopefully I can play around with it sometime this week. I also checked out Corian's website. You can order samples for a couple bucks a piece in any color...including some of their new translucent colors! If all goes well I'll have to order some. Might even try carving on the lathe...

This week....

Anodizing. Here it is:

More about me.

I'm from Milwaukee, I'm 23, I cannot survive without q-tips, I like green bananas, I have/have had a lot of pets, I prefer the crust, I'm usually pretty shy, I hate coconut, I get homesick fairly easily, I have lots of jokes, I like to cook, I am addicted to Stumble Upon, I like bugs. I've decided that a metalsmithing degree will leave me with two career options: cat lady and/or trophy wife, though someone recently suggested I kill two birds with one stone and just become a cougar.

No, but seriously. I have no idea what I would like to do when I graduate. I'm okay not having a career in metalsmithing, just as long as I can still make things. So in 5 years I just want to still be making things. And that is all.

Also, enjoy this crappy picture of my cat.
